The Wedding
On Saturday morning we woke up early at our guest house. Fortunately the weather was perfect for a wedding. No wind blowing and hot enough for our summer outfits. We had to drop Johan at the bridegroom’s home in order for him to get the car which would take the bride to the venue. At the bridegroom’s home it seemed as if both bridegroom and his best man, Sean, were more nervous than the bride could ever be. They were sitting motionless in the living room when we arrived, both very pale and quiet – it was rather hilarious.
Deon, Paula and I then left for the wedding ceremony which would take place at Hamilton’s Exclusive Country Venue. A tranquil scene met us upon arrival, with green fields and grazing cattle. We gathered on the veranda with the other guests. More family arrived, another sister and her family, and all the guests waited for the bride to arrive.
We eventually took our seats – and yes, the bride was a few minutes late. A few minutes after noon the big moment came and a radiant bride was given away to my extremely happy looking youngest brother. (It was the liveliest wedding march ever – Sanet is definitely a girl full of surprises.) They took their vows and during a very moving moment they literally tied the knot with gold, white and purple threads resembling their new life together based on their faith in God.
We enjoyed a wonderful and very relaxed wedding reception, despite load shedding. The outfits and flowers were beautiful, all five brothers and sisters were together with our mom and partners. The speeches were done, we enjoyed a lovely meal and a beautiful wedding cake topped it all. When we left the venue, we were happy and thankful that we could be together on this special day. We were all happy for my brother who has at last found his forever partner.
