As our first visit to Phizante Kraal Restaurant on the Durbanville Wine Valley was a great experience, we decided to pay them a second visit when Deon’s brother invited us for lunch. We were early and waited for them on the lawn while admiring the beautiful view of the mountains. It was a perfect winter’s afternoon.
We were again very happy with our choice, and Johan and Juanita were in awe. The views, the beautiful interior of the restaurant, the friendly service and the excellent food are all ingredients which add to the success of this restaurant.
Juanita ordered the vegetarian meal, which was a Quinoa & Goats Cheese salad. The warm veggies, cranberries, avocado, onion marmalade and baby lettuce with mustard dressing looked divine.
My chicken with herb butter, homemade potato gnocchi, wild mushroom ragu & sautéed spinach and Deon’s Lamb & Sweet Potato Curry with lamb goulash, Turkish apricots, yoghurt & mint served with buttered garlic naan bread were dishes that were definitely created by a very accomplished chef.
Johan was very quiet while enjoying his Pork Belly with hickory smoked potato puree, buttered baby vegetables with pickled mustard seeds & jus. The menu reads like a beautiful poem.
Well, then we had to end a beautiful day with dessert. Johan and Juanita shared the Malva Pudding and Deon and I chose the chocolate cake with meringue. What a treat!
Next time, we’ll be back for breakfast – we heard a rumour that it is the best in town!
