Our Moment of Fame
Last week, I received a message from former colleague Nina Timm, also known as “Kuberkok”. She wanted Deon and me to be her guests on RSG – popular radio talk show. Nina invites bloggers to chat about their blogs every Thursday morning. Deon tried to get out of the talk show, claiming that he was only the “webmaster” – but, as I am not much of a chatter box, I dragged him with me on Thursday morning.
It was a cold and wet Thursday morning. We had to meet Nina at a coffee shop called Giovanni’s at 08:00. That meant that we had to start our journey to Green Point at 06:15 as the traffic on the N1 in the mornings is really hectic. What a surprise when we entered Giovanni’s – it is one of the best delis we have ever seen. There is everything a foodie needs – freshly baked artisan bread, excellent coffee, many ingredients that you struggle to find at other shops, ready prepared food, meze … Early morning people on their way to work, meet there for breakfast and a chat – it is a wonderful cosmopolitan space.
After a coffee and a chat about our days as teachers at Cape Recife High School in Port Elizabeth, we left for our meeting at the SABC. It was a rather daunting task to do a live interview, but the presenters of the show, Martelize Brink, Johan Rademan and our own Nina, were professional and set us (me) at ease.
On our return back home, in retrospect, we again realized that we are all in search of a good life. The good life, for us, is not to be found in things that you can buy. Our favourite quote from the best movie that has ever been made, Shirley Valentine, is:
I have allowed myself to lead this little life, when inside me there was so much more. And it’s all gone unused. And now it never will be. Why do we get all this life if we don’t ever use it? Why do we get all these feelings and dreams and hopes if we don’t ever use them?
Moving to Cape Town has made us realise that we need to live our lives to the full. It is the rose that is afraid of dying, that never learns to live.
Thank you Nina, it was a privilege to meet again.
It was a fun morning wasn’t it? Thank you for also reminding me of how important it is too look for the good life in the little things.
Thank you!
Thanks to you, we had a beautiful morning. Thank you!
Ek het geluister en het die uitsending baie geniet!! Gaan jou blog nou volg en vind dit baie interessant.
Baie dankie, dit is lekker as iemand sulke kommentaar lewer.
