Long ago it was a biscuit factory, but today The Old Biscuit Mill in the industrial area of Woodstock is a vibrant hub, with the highlight on Saturday mornings at the Neighbourgoods Market with its gourmet food, organic produce, fresh flowers, clothing and much more. We visited the market one Saturday morning and were stunned by the collection of arts and crafts; the designer cakes and artisan breads. I saw the most gorgeous mushrooms, home-made pies; beautiful crostini and much, much more. What is amazing is that many people we spoke to who have been living in Cape Town for whole their lives, do not even know about the existence of this market. This is a must-do – you just have to experience this.
Should you want to pay a visit, make sure that you go early on a Saturday, because crowds start gathering after 11:00 and parking could become a problem. The market is open between 09:00 and 14:00 every Saturday. On a Sunday you could attend the Vintage Fair, where traders sell second hand and vintage goods, while enjoying croissants and aromatic coffee. Deon and I still have to go there on a Sunday.
When we visit events like this, we are always amazed at what Cape Town offers and are again thrilled that we have been so fortunate to relocate to this beautiful city three years ago. What a privilege to live in this city which has been rated tops in the list of the most loved destinations for travelers in 2013, according to Travel and Leisure. Cape Town, we adore you!
