Driving over Lemons
We came across Chris Stewart’s, book Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Andalucia (1999, ISBN 0-9535227-0-9) in 2004 when we prepared ourselves for a visit to Spain and what a delight! After this we also read his other books, A Parrot In The Pepper Tree and The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society. Chris was the drummer of the band Genesis for a couple of years. Then, after travelling and working throughout Europe, he bought the farm named El Valero in the Alpujarras region of Andalucia, Spain. His books are about his life as a farmer on El Valero where he lives and works with his wife Ana and daughter Chloë.
When Sandra and I found ourselves confronted with a lot of lemons that we wanted to preserve, I again thought about Driving over Lemons. We are fortunate to have two young lemon trees in the garden, as well as the neighbour’s tree that shares its crop with us. Sandra often uses lemons in cooking. Yesterday, when I did a Google search on Chris Stewart, I saw that he has published another book, Last Days of the Bus Club, in 2014. I immediately ordered the book.
I also found Chris’ blog and really enjoyed reading that last night in bed. You can find it here: http://drivingoverlemons.co.uk/blog/. I hope you find his writing as refreshing as we do!
