Avontuur Estate Restaurant
It was Friday again and time for adventure. We were heading to Avontuur Estate Restaurant, which was a very suitable name. The Afrikaans word Avontuur, translated into English, indeed means Adventure.
Avontuur Estate is situated against the Helderberg, between Stellenbosch and Somerset-West in the Western Cape. When you drive up to the building in which the restaurant is situated, a beautiful tranquil scenery of mountains, white washed buildings and pure bred horses meets the eye.
Inside the restaurant a fire was burning in the fire-place. Sophisticated waitrons and crisp white table cloths are part of the inside magic. The philosopy at the restaurant is that everone who visits the restaurant is either already a friend or soon will be. Therefore they deliver exceptional service and food.
The atmosphere is warm and elegant. The service was great and the food very tasty. Deon loved his meal of the day which was Smoked Kassler Chops with Apple and Celery Puree with Grilled Cajun Pineapple and Red Pepper Salsa. My dish, Chicken Pot Pie with Leeks and Mushrooms and Grilled Vegetables on the side, was very good.
For dessert Deon chose Affogato which was a shot of Brandy, Espresso coffee, Ice-Cream and a Tuille Biscuit. The Deep Fried Ice-Cream with Butterscotch Sauce, which was my choice, was great.
It was a lovely lunch at a perfect venue. Well done to Avontuur Estate Restaurant.
