There comes a time when the Master of the House just needs a potent curry. Friday afternoon, on our marriage time outing, we decided to return to Annapurna. It was as if I could hear the Lamb Vindaloo calling my name! And again, I was not disappointed. We were still looking for a replacement for the wonderful Indian restaurant, Royal Delhi in Central in Port Elizabeth, that we used to frequent when we were still living there. We think we have found our replacement here in Cape Town – Annapurna!
Annapurna, named after the goddess of the harvest, has an extensive menu: tandoori and madras curries, butter chicken, biryani, corma, naan, etcetera. Sandra had butter chicken that was good, but a little too sweet to her taste. My lamb vindaloo was flavourful and hot, really hot – just as I wanted it to be. Excellent! The main dishes were served with basmati rice. We shared a buttery garlic naan.
They have a wine list that offers a good selection. The service was friendly and prompt – a place to return to. The interior decoration is … well, Indian.
