We visited the S.A. Cheese Festival at Sandringham outside Stellenbosch today. Boutique cheese makers from all over the country brought their artisan cheeses to this large gathering of cheese lovers. There also were lots more to buy and to feast on – wine, biltong, waffles, ice-cream, pizza, hamburgers and much more. And yes, even those who are banting, were catered for. We had a lovely banting salad for two with lots of cheese, greens, olives, biltong, Parma ham and avocado, dressed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. There were crowds of people enjoying the fabulous autumn weather.
The highlight of the festival for us was a cooking lesson by a previous colleague of mine, Nina Timm. She made dishes from her new recipe book called Easy Cooking from Nina’s Kitchen. My copy was specially signed by Nina. It was good to see her again after all the years. Both of us gave up our previous careers to pursue what we love. She has made a huge success of hers and is quite the celebrity today. I admire her for following her dream.
