Castella Amare
Castella Amara – a beautiful name, which means castle at the sea, if my translation is correct. Deon and I hesitated slightly to visit the Portuguese restaurant situated at 47-5th Avenue, Melkbosstrand (Formerly Die Kliphuis). We read some negative reviews, and when Deon started getting cold feet and tried to convince me to rather visit another restaurant, I decided that we should give it a try.
The restaurant is situated only a few meters from the beautiful Melkbosstrand seaside. While approaching the restaurant, we saw that there were many people having lunch on the patio. We therefore also asked to be seated outside, and despite a typical winter’s day in Cape Town, it was not really unpleasant to sit outside and watch the waves breaking.
Our meals were excellently prepared – mine was a fish burger – very elegantly done with fish and bread roll apart. Deon’s calamari platter – calamari steak, baby squid and tentacles – was delicious. As usual, we shared dessert, which was a gorgeous lemon meringue.
Well done, Castella Amara, we would love to visit you again, especially because you pride yourself in consistency, according to your website. To us, consistency is the way to go for being a successful restaurant.
