Café Ruby
As usual on a Friday afternoon, we ventured out today to find a new restaurant for lunch. We decided to visit Café Ruby, situated on the Klein Roosboom Farm in the Durbanville Wine Valley. The farmer’s wife, Natasha de Villiers, runs the café. The wine maker is Karen de Villiers. The restaurant is surrounded by vineyards and has a safe playground and large sandpit for children. The vintage country interior makes for a relaxed atmosphere. You can even buy the furniture or kitchen collectables on show. I did not see it, but in the gents the farmer’s final summonses for many speeding fines act as wall paper. Quirky it is!
We have previously visited the restaurant and were impressed by the dishes, which are created by a very accomplished chef. Today we again were not disappointed. I ordered the quiche of the day and it was served beautifully on a wooden serving platter. Some freshly baked bread and a crisp salad accompanied the quiche. Deon ordered a burger, which was served with chips and a salad. Christo’s Famous Café Burger, topped with caramelized onion, cheese and bacon was perfect. Crisp Sauvignon Blanc from the cellar rounded off a perfect lunch. It was a meal served with style and passion. And we had a surprise visit from the farm dog.
If you like farm-styled hospitality, this is the restaurant to visit.
Was ook daar – baie gawe besoekie..?……
